An der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät III, Institut für Agrar- und Ernährungswissenschaften, ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt die auf 3 Jahre befristete Stelle einer/eines
Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiterin/Mitarbeiters
zu besetzen. (Eine Verlängerung ist möglich.) Teilzeitbeschäftigung: 50 % Die Eingruppierung erfolgt je nach Aufgabenübertragung und Erfüllung der persönlichen Voraussetzungen bis zur Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L, einschließlich landesspezifischer Tarifverträge.
Voraussetzungen: ● Hochschulstudium der Agrarwissenschaften, bzw. der Biologie oder Veterinärmedizin ● Kenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der angewandten Ethologie und Verhaltensphysiologie
Arbeitsaufgaben: ● Forschung an der Professur für Tierhaltung und Nutztierökologie (Prof. Dr. E. von Borell). ● Mitarbeit bei der Entwicklung, Planung und Durchführung von Projekten (mit Einwerbung von Drittmitteln) auf den Gebieten der Verhaltensadaptation und Stressforschung einschließlich der Auswirkungen auf Leistungs- und Gesundheitsmerkmale bei landwirtschaftlichen Nutztieren ● Kooperation mit ähnlich ausgerichteten Institutionen auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene ist ausdrücklich erwünscht; entsprechend vorhandene Kontakte und gute Englischkenntnisse sind deshalb von Vorteil ● Lehraufgaben gemäß HSG LSA im Bachelorstudiengang Agrarwissenschaften zukünftigen Masterstudiengang Nutztierwissenschaften im Rahmen der Professur ● Die Möglichkeiten zur Promotion bzw. Habilitation ist gegeben

Ph.D. student positions are available at the Department of Behavioural Neuroendocrinology at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich, Germany
We are looking for Ph.D. students studying the behaviour and neurobiology of laboratory mice. Our research group generates and investigates clinically relevant animal models of inborn (trait) anxiety and stress reactivity to elucidate neurobiological, neuroendocrine, and molecular-genetic mechanisms underlying affective disorders. It is only with deep insight into these mechanisms that novel treatment strategies and promising targets for therapeutic interventions can be developed in the future. Current research projects include a variety of behavioural tests, neuroendocrine approaches to analyze neuropeptides related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical (HPA) axis, and paradigms to study interactions between genetic predispositions and environmental influences. Candidates critically involved in behavioural and neuroendocrine concomitants of anxiety and depression, like the neuropeptides AVP and CRH as well as the negative feedback regulation of the HPA axis, are the focus of our investigations (at the genetic, proteomic and systemic level). Successful applicants will play a large role in the design and execution of research to characterise two animal models of affective disorders: (1) the ‘HAB/LAB’ mouse lines, selected for extremes in anxiety-related behaviour and (2) the ‘stress reactivity’ mouse model, selectively bred for profound differences in the reactivity of the HPA axis. Applicants must have an MS in Biology or equivalent discipline and a strong interest in behavioural neuroscience. The applicants should also possess excellent writing and communication skills and a strong work ethic. Field assistants needed for the project
Socio-Ecology of small Mammals in the Succulent Karoo of South Africa
What kind of people are needed? Biology/zoology/veterinary students with a BSC/ Vordiplom or equivalent are preferred as candidates. Applicants must have an interest in working in the field and with animals. Whereas the research is mainly non-invasive, this is no job for extreme animal right persons (we take tissue and blood samples). Hard working conditions will await applicants, as the study species gets up with sunrise (between 5 and 6 o` clock), and stops its activity with dawn. Work during nights might also be necessary. Work in the field will be done for 5-6 days a week. Applicants must be able to manage extreme temperatures (below 0 at night, sometimes over 40°C during days). Applicants must both be prepared to live for long periods in the loneliness of the field and to be part of a small group. Work of field assistants: Trapping and marking of mice and rats; radio-tracking to determine home ranges and nest sites; direct behavioral observations in the field; experiments and observations with captive specimen under natural weather conditions; maintenance and cleaning of the research station. Costs: Students have to arrange their transport to the field site themselves. Per month, an amount of Rand 500 (around 75 Euro) must be paid for accommodation at the research station. Students must buy their own food etc in Springbok (costs of about R 1300 or 200 Euro/month). Including extras, you should expect to pay about 300-400 Euros per month. Place: The field site is in the Goegap Nature Reserve near Springbok in the North-West of South Africa. The vegetation consists of Succulent Karoo, which has been recognized as one of 25 hotspots of biodiversity. It is a desert to semi-desert with rain mainly in winter (June to September). Project: We study the reasons of group living, paternal care, communal nesting and social flexibility in the striped mouse. As this species is diurnal and the habitat is open, direct behavioral observations in the field are possible.
When and how long: We are always looking for field assistants that
stay for a minimum of 2 months. Longer periods (3-6 months or longer) are
preferred.
